Staking FAQ
What is Active Staking Rewards [ASR]?
A: ASR is the means by which active community members are empowered by their participation. The more they vote, the more vote weight they attain via this mechanism. After the successful vote of CLOUD-1: Should Sanctum implement CLOUD staking and active staking rewards?, 30M of CLOUD have been earmarked for distribution as ASR rewards for 6 months.
To take part in ASR, stake your $CLOUD on the voting site https://vote.sanctum.so/ and vote on proposals as they go live. You must actively vote to get them.
How to Stake CLOUD
It’s easy to start staking:
- Visit Vote • Sanctum and connect your wallet
- Enter the amount of CLOUD you want to stake
- Click “Stake Now”
- You’ll receive the same amount of sCLOUD in your wallet
That’s it! Your CLOUD is now staked.
How to Unstake sCLOUD
If you choose to unstake:
- Visit Vote • Sanctum and connect your wallet
- Switch to the “Unstake” tab
- Enter the amount of sCLOUD you want to unstake
- Click “Unstake”
Your sCLOUD will start converting back to CLOUD over 30 days. You’ll always get 1 CLOUD for every sCLOUD you unstake.
Staking Score
Your Staking Score, together with the number of qualifying proposals you participated in, determines your share of future Active Staking Rewards (ASR). It’s calculated based on how much CLOUD you stake and for how long (staked amount × duration). The longer you stake, the higher your score.
Staking Score isn’t live yet, but don’t worry—your staking activity from today will count.
What is Staked CLOUD (sCLOUD)?
sCLOUD is an SPL token you receive in return for staking CLOUD. You get 1 sCLOUD for every 1 CLOUD staked.
How do I know if my CLOUD is staked successfully?
If you have sCLOUD in your wallet, your CLOUD is staked. You can unstake it any time, and after 30 days, you’ll get back the equivalent amount of CLOUD.
How long does unstaking take?
Unstaking takes 30 days, during which your sCLOUD gradually converts back to CLOUD. You can claim any available unstaked CLOUD at any time during this period, or cancel any unstaking positions.
What happens if I cancel my unstaking?
If you cancel your unstaking, any already unstaked CLOUD and remaining sCLOUD will be returned to your wallet instantly.
Can i use separate wallets to stake my CLOUD and vote?
No, you must use the same wallet.
Governance Process on the Forum
1. Ideas - [CLOUD- Ideas]
Anyone can share their ideas here for a proposal. No format required.
2. Draft - [CLOUD - Drafts]
Anyone can put up a draft proposal on the Sanctum Research forums. It’s expected that this draft will be revised significantly based on community feedback.
This does NOT mean that anything goes. At minimum, the proposal must follow a standard-ish format. It should be concise and coherent. It should make clear why it is important enough to merit voting by the DAO. Proposals that do not meet a minimum quality bar will be deleted.
3. Deliberation - [CLOUD - Deliberation]
For a proposal to move from draft to deliberation, it must have received an endorsement from either a member of the core team OR an individual with at least X staking points. For now, it is not in scope for the core team to build out a “staking point endorsement UI” – this would slow down our roadmap significantly. We will rely instead on off-chain verification (e.g. a member who has X staking points simply writes “I endorse this proposal” on the forum)
A proposal that enters the deliberation process should be “buttoned-up”. This means that it should be well-formatted and atomic (one single proposed course of action, rather than an exploration of multiple different options, as experience showed us that that is hard to vote on). Proposals that enter the deliberation process will go to a vote by default, regardless of the outcome of the deliberation, barring extraordinary circumstances.
4. Voting [CLOUD-Official]
Once the deliberation process is complete, final (minor) changes to the proposal are made, and the proposal goes up for voting. No change here.
