CLOUD-004: Should Sanctum build a Sanctum Mobile App (“Wonder”)? [FAILED]

The app idea seems like a great idea to consolidate like a 1 stop shop all Sanctum.

I just want to ask, if it passes. Would it available for IOS and Android? Would there be a desktop app version?

Lastly, would it also be compatible with the seeker mobile?

Wow, this is huge. Thx for sharing this with us in the form of a vote :heart_hands:t2:

Initial thoughts:

  • Is there any chance you’d share the killer feature candidates or ideas?
  • Is Wonderland still on the roadmap? Will there be enough resources to deliver both Wonder and Wonderland while simultaneously maintaining the current platform?
  • As mentioned by others, it would be awesome if the DAO governance was part of the app. Doesn’t need to be from the start.
  • Are you considering native platform development or single codebase?
  • Are you considering raising capital for this project?

However this goes, I am here to support this best I can.

Love & respect,

L.

Special thanks to the team for raising this proposal, The importance of mobile app in crypto onboarding phase cannot be overemphasized. Most people spend their time on mobile device, I think it will be a very good shot if sanctum could build a very friendly crypto app to onboard millions of users. We have seen how phantom with the worse ux printing fees everyday with just jup.ag enabled in-wallet swap. Kamino being a defacto money markets on solana is also considering mobile app.

The future of crypto is mobile, It is either we get in now or get squared later. Wonder app will be a positive sum for sanctum ecosystem as LST markets, the team have a very good track records in building smooth user experience, I have no doubt we are going to have a greater distribution with Wonder.

Yes!

Anything that onboards end-users is a good thing, and Sanctum with its focus on simplicity and safety is perfectly positioned to grab more market share with a mobile app.

When newcomers realise the potential Sanctum unlocks with LSTs and custodial staking, the benefits could be huge.

It also makes a diversification that could mitigate risk for Sanctum given the uncertainty around SIMD-0228.

Let’s go.

I think yes, form what I notice, my current wallet doesn’t show yields, so an app which shows yield is a great idea.

I like the idea of thinking about expanding and having more products, more audience, more revenue. I just have doubts about whether now is the best time to grow in this way. Wouldn’t it be better to continue expanding access to CLOUD, LSTs, INF, etc.? Cloud still has a lot of potential in its core business.

Since this will eventually lead to a benefit to CLOUD token - I’d vote yes. especially if no cloud tokens were to be expended on this endeavour to push new product out.

Plus if we can get additional revenue in for protocol, i say this is good.

what are your thoughts on partnering with another project that already has a mobile app as part of their core strategy?

i like the idea and it also makes sense.
the only thing that i am afraid of is that every project is trying to bring up a new app. At the moment most of the people have phantom + jup mobile i guess.
Since everything is possible to “bind” via the browser, why a new app? Is there something specific this app is going to be able to do that is not possible via a web application?

This is a general dilemma, in the web2 world too. Everyone wants to build something new. I am not judging or saying its wrong, i am just expressing my thoughts. Instead of building new things, why not aggregate everything?

I like the idea of an app but would not want Sanctum to take on the burden of creating it. Find a reputable business already in the crypto mobile space and collaborate with them.

I truly believe that this initiative, if successful, could greatly benefit the entire Sanctum ecosystem and community, bringing more and more quality people to the crypto market.
Once again, I look forward to seeing all the potential it has to offer our community!
Let’s go together, success is just around the corner!

This is really great :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

One concern is that there is a trend towards native app (Jupiter) for both android and ios. For performance, native apps are best. But, I think it costly to develop for both

OTOH, if Sanctum can use react native, then maybe a lot of react front end code can be reused

I always want to be with pioneers, I think this mobile dapp will bring sanctum a step front from the competition but the team must eliminate the risk and find the balance between focusing on growing sanctum and at the same time building this mobile app , at lower cost. Is this possible?

After hearing more about Cloud 004 and the mobile app during today’s forecast call, I am for it

I initially thought it was just going to be another wallet competing against the likes of phantom or jupmobile

Sounds like the vision is much more than just that

After FP expanded on the opp cost on this most recent call, and how the entire team won’t be fully allocated to building the mobile app so that the core business will still be taken care of, I feel more comfortable.

I almost see this proposal as a bet for or against FP and the team’s vision, and I think they see it from many other angles than I currently am/can.

I am in favor of letting Sanctum experiment and trust that they’ll scrap the mobile project if it goes no where. LET THEM COOK!!!

Please don’t exclude memecoiners & trading them tho - be all inclusive - just not the primary focus of the project

My only question is users ig.
Where they’ll come from, good plan for rollout, publicity required etc.
I know the target with onboarding is give people a great way to get started with crypto. I see the vision and I think it could be great. I’m worried about user base. Where and how mostly. Do you have a plan for that?

As a concept , I like it and believe if executed correctly could be massive, something like this has the potential to be the vehicle to onboard users into crypto easily and simply.

The brand imagary is colourful charming, fun and will be maintained into the app, which should appeal on a visual level to users.

As apps are updateable so new content can be added over time, like a release to include any future wonderland seasons, so the future possiblities are infinate .

A few other thoughts :face_with_peeking_eye:

Does any of the team have any prior experience of developing and delivering apps, I say this as this will be one of our flagship onboarding products, it has to be seemless and flawless come general release. An IOS app is a must, and if i understand correctly needs its own xcode/IDE code, and probably need several approvals covering various regions, so potentially brings it own complications.

Security, with the amount of scams within crypto even with the tightest of wallet control and security, some of the best and most experianced users can still get caught out and loose funds to them, one of my concerns at moment (not specific to this or Sanctum) is all current craze for linking wallets for various purposes, because if the profile or account gets hacked they now have access to all the linked wallets. If the app is to be “walletless” for want of better term then it needs to be bulletproof, multi-layer security, new users could easily mistake a scam email relating to their account and be taken in.

Initial timescale, how long are we estimating for an intial period to have something to show for the developement, again I ask this no small undertaking to acheieve major apps have whole teams dedicated to the development and upkeep of their apps, product update releases, bug fixes, security patches and so forth.

Still thinking, sure there will be more thoughts and suggestions over the next few days

Building an app on mobile is a no brainer; you will increase the daily use of Sanctum’s protocol + you will onboard and bring easily new people on it
Simple, basic
