What is Earnestness

Just wanted to start a thread and have a stab at defining what “Earnestness” is in terms of community activities…

The beginning of this disccusion is due to the disgruntled airdroppers who are only getting a small size for their holdings… and I’ll say… Honestly TVL has to be cheap at this point because whether a depositor went in in the past or what size he is, we want to REWARD earnestness.

Expectation of profit off depositing and expecting a big reward is NOT EARNEST. EARNESTNESS IS: Willingness to contribute into the community via:
i. community driven marketing - partnership collab between project TVL and reach.
ii. Show support on LP of CLOUD
iii. Build your own LSTs! I think TVL should NOT be rewarded as much as those who are willing to back a project since launch.

But let me know what you guys think about how the community can build this exogenously. Which is why we have this thread up, in the hopes that we can get a good conversation going.

I’m just going to add a framework by J from discord:

" 1. The team has always valued transparency with the community, and we’ve always taken into account genuine feedback - positive and negative. Unfortunately, for the airdrop, the Earnestness criteria was something we had to keep extremely close to the chest - revealing the details in any form would defeat the purpose of Earnestness. While we would try and mention the importance of earnestness as much as we could in AMAs and posts, we weren’t able to state specific details or examples. Once again, genuine social contribution and earnestness can’t be gamed. We would like to be clear that we are very strict with the grading. Being early to the protocol or onboarding friends/family (and sharing your ref link) isn’t necessarily a proof of earnestness, you are already being rewarded by capital contribution. However, having constructive criticism/feedback, creating content, understanding the vision/value proposition, translating official Sanctum documents, etc, out of good will is. Two examples of outstanding contributions include James and his whiteboards on Twitter; and bengshark and his 15k of unprompted helpful messages on Discord, but worry not we’re doing our due diligence and manually going through all profiles and social activity. Wonderland’s goal has never been purely just to grow TVL, our endgame has always been to increase the amount of SOL liquid staked on the network and unlock new use cases of LSTs. It’s clear that, by design, Sanctum’s unlock of new liquid staking usage has a lot of PMF. Sanctum LSTs like jupSOL or hSOL have attracted truly organic holders even post Wonderland as they believe it is the best place to park their SOL if you believe in Solana, because of the yield and deep integrations (like Kamino multiply). It is impossible to design a perfect airdrop. With a linear airdrop, you end up only rewarding passive whales and active community members, who may not have as much capital, get crumbs. With a tiered system, you end up giving a massive portion to sophisticated industrial sybil farms, leaving less on the table for true capital contributors and active community members. With this airdrop distribution, we are trying our best to change the lives of people who care about Sanctum, even beyond capital. We are also never a perfect team. We have made mistakes and we will continue to make mistakes but one thing is for sure, we have a clear vision of what we’re doing, we will do what we believe is the right thing to in spite of non-constructive criticism, and will always value the community."

This is our main focus and we can build out from there.

“you can satisfy some of the people some of the time…never all of the people all of the time”

and besides - it doesn’t matter some are disgruntled… the complaints serve to encourage discourse and media reach -
it’s a win/win

Looking forward to see this getting applied.

Profound outline by j. Sanctum’s community was my first discord server where I really understood what community can be. I didn’t know what discord’s purpose was. However I saw people helping each other, discussion, idea promotion and exchange. This is what kept me coming back. I commend j and fp for sticking to their word, in the face of waves of criticism.

Will forever be involved in bettering the Sanctum community, because they have shown they truly care about us. Being Sanctum Aligned has been a privilege so far, and I can’t wait to see where we go from here!
