[Proposal] "The Haven" - A dedicated channel to support one another through life's challenges

Proposal for the “The-Haven” Discord Channel

Overview

“the-haven” channel is proposed as a dedicated support and well-being space within the Sanctum community Discord server. This space aims to create a safe, judgment-free environment where members can connect for emotional support, share their struggles, or simply chat with someone when they need a friendly ear. The goal is to foster a sense of belonging and community care, reflecting the spirit of mutual support that Sanctum promotes.

Purpose and Objectives

  1. Emotional Support & Connection: Provide a space where community members feel comfortable sharing their struggles—whether related to mental health, personal issues, or general stress.
  2. Community Bonding: Strengthen the Sanctum community by encouraging genuine connections and empathy among members.
  3. Resource Sharing: Offer access to resources such as mental health hotlines, self-care tips, or wellness articles.
  4. Peer Listening: Facilitate conversations where members can offer each other a listening ear or helpful advice.

Channel Guidelines

To ensure that the-haven is a safe and productive space, the following rules will be enforced:

  • Respect and Empathy: Members are expected to be kind, respectful, and understanding. No negativity, trolling, or toxic behavior will be tolerated.
  • Confidentiality: Members are encouraged to maintain privacy and avoid sharing sensitive personal information publicly.
  • Non-Judgment Zone: Everyone’s struggles are valid, and the space will remain free of judgment or unsolicited advice unless explicitly requested.
  • Peer Support, Not Professional Help: This is a community-led support channel. Professional help resources will be pinned for those needing further assistance.

Channel Structure and Features

  1. Pinned Resources: A set of pinned resources will be available, including:

    • Links to mental health helplines and hotlines.
    • Guides on self-care practices and stress management.
    • Resources on dealing with anxiety, depression, and burnout.
  2. Check-In Messages: Community members will be encouraged to check in on each other periodically, ensuring everyone feels seen and supported.

  3. Anonymous Sharing Option: For those who prefer to share anonymously, a form can be integrated (through a bot or a mod) to allow members to express thoughts or struggles without revealing their identity.

  4. Mod Support and Crisis Escalation: While moderators are not mental health professionals, they will be trained to escalate crisis situations by guiding members to professional services or hotlines when needed.

Implementation Plan

  1. Create the Channel: Add #the-haven under a “Community” or “Support” category on the Discord server.
  2. Announce the Launch: Share a welcome post to inform the community of the channel’s purpose and guidelines.
  3. Pin Resources: Collect and pin essential resources for easy access.
  4. Moderator Training: Train moderators on how to handle sensitive situations, maintain a supportive tone, and direct members to professional resources when necessary.
  5. Regular Engagement: Schedule periodic prompts or activities to encourage positive conversations (e.g., weekly “How are you?” check-ins or self-care challenges).

Conclusion

the-haven channel will reflect the core values of the Sanctum community—connection, empathy, and support. It will serve as a safe space for members to seek companionship, share struggles, and find comfort in knowing they are not alone. This channel aligns with Sanctum’s values, building a collaborative and supportive ecosystem, extending that spirit beyond finance and technology into personal well-being.

This initiative is an opportunity to show that Sanctum is more than just a platform—it is a community that cares about the people behind it.

I would just like to add that this idea stemmed from a conversation I recently had with @luciotamino.

I was having quite a day dealing with some of my own struggles and he spent his time (almost an hour, maybe more) to give me kindness and love. By the end of our chat I felt new life in me, ready to face the days ahead. I am forever grateful to you my brother.

This is really touching, n8tr0n! And such a fitting solution to a problem many of us face - feeling like we don’t matter or feeling alone. The name ‘Sanctum’ already resonates deeply with this, as it truly can be a Sanctuary for those in need. I’m sure the founders didn’t choose this name randomly, it immediately stands out when you first hear about the project and feel its heartwarming vibe. The team expressed something similar about Earnestness: if they can help even one person change their life for the better, then it’s all worth it. And I know for sure that Sanctum has already changed, and will continue to change, many lives - including my own. This isn’t just talk, it’s something that’s really happening, and it’s revolutionary.

@Bengshark’s healthSOL initiative ties into this approach as well, showcasing how Sanctum goes beyond finance to create real-world change in various areas. That’s one of Sanctum’s most remarkable traits: it doesn’t set limits or boundaries on what it can become. Instead, it holds the potential to be anything.

In addition to what you’ve proposed, I suggest creating a donation fund curated and managed by a small group in the community to help members in emergency situations. Of course, the challenge lies in verifying the need, but that shouldn’t stop us from trying to make it a reality. If we can help even one person in desperate need, it will be worth it - just as Sanctum has already said. Bad actors will have their own conscience to deal with. I’ve studied something called ‘The Gift Economy,’ which humanity once practiced before becoming so self-centered. There was a real sense of community spirit, and we have much to learn from it. I was already planning to write a topic here on Research about Earnestness and the Gift Economy, exploring the similarities I see between them.

I’m so glad to see the positive impact we’re having on one another’s lives, and to be building so much together. Earnestness is not only a turning point in web3’s history but something even greater, and time will show its true significance!

I think this could be a very important resource for the community. Really groundbreaking idea, and something I’m sure not many other communities have implemented!

The importance of mental health can never be underestimated. I’m sure many of us tuned into Meow’s special planetary call this past Monday. It was amazing to hear him speak about mental health, how in web3 many of us have traded a 9 to 5 for a 24/7 job. This style of working, paired with other issues we may be facing can have serious impact on our daily well being and overall health.

This proposal is just one more example of how the Sanctum community strives to be there for each other in more ways than one. It’s important to be open when we have issues, and rely on our communities to provide more than just a web3 experience.

Very well thought out in terms of providing trained mod support, anonymous sharing option, overall channel guidelines. Maybe some of the grant proposal prize funds could eventually be used for this if it is wel received by the community. Nice one N8tron

Beautiful @luciotamino ! Really great idea for a fund. I checked out an interview you sent me on the gift economy. Super refreshing! If only we could somehow live this way. Still, every step we make gets us closer, or further, from a more healthy, sustainable environment for everyone to prosper in. :green_heart:

Yes, I agree, it would be nice to have a dedicated channel to reaching out to each other in times of need. Hopefully the team can add it to discord soon

Such a valid point…it would feel even more genuine (I presume) to have in depth exchange of thoughts in the haven.

This is probably really needed thing. I like your thoughts. Sometimes there are these blackholes in life where you need some opinion or help or just somebody with whom you could share some part of you. It helps a lot. I think shit happens in everybody’s life. I think doctor can’t handle the pain which is sitting in you and doesn’t leave you. Mental Health is the thing what feeds us from inside. I am to 100% for this kind of interaction. God loves you all.

Agree lol… where can I find it?
Personally the Haven is a good idea, but implementation is tough… each of us are raised differently, it’s hard to “not-be judgmental” to our friends… sometimes we want to help, but being judgemental is part of it.

I think The Haven can be a place for “small group of us” to be open and express our life problem, it doesnt have to be professional, but the person asking for help or is depressed must also agree to go for treatment and share their experience.

Be careful when dealing with depression. I am an optimistic person, I believe in positivity, and never believed “depression was real” until Luna fell and I lost $3m worth of staked Luna last cycle. That was when, for almost 1 month, I was depressed. I have no interest in eating or working, I slept like log on my bed, it was insane, I was never out of energy, I recovered after a month, back to hard work… ever since then I believe that depression exist. It was probably due to chemical imbalance, but when you’re “depressed” you are really depressed. You may really need help.

I’m concerned that we’re giving the wrong advise to the wrong people. Seriously… put disclaimer in The Haven.

Thank you for joining the discussion!

This is not a place for professional/medical attention. It is a place for a listening ear and a kind word, as well as some resources.

Yes, depression is very real. And each time it’s different. Some people live a more privileged life and then one day are smacked in the face with this harsh reality. But some of us have been through it all too much.

Love always helps.

Again, welcome!
